E-CHARGING STATIONS

REALISATION

A comprehensive charging infrastructure for electric vehicles has been created at BORUSSIA PARK, Borussia Mönchengladbach's stadium. Since then, there have been 10 AC charging stations at Borussia Park with 20 charging points for visitors going to the stadium, fan shop, museum, hotel and rehabilitation centre.

Car park P4 at Borussia Park offers 18 new AC charging points, developed in cooperation with PPG Nordpark GmbH and the municipal utility company NEW, with an additional transformer for the power supply. Car park P8 was created in partnership with Aral pulse, Aral's e-mobility brand, and offers 14 fast-charging stations with up to 400 kW, which can charge 28 vehicles simultaneously. The plant uses certified green electricity and has a photovoltaic system. State-of-the-art amenities such as free Wi-Fi, various payment options and an intelligent LED lighting system are available. The charging park is located in the immediate vicinity of the A61 motorway and the growing Nordpark industrial estate.

BACKGROUND

E-mobility contributes to reducing CO2 emissions generated by fans traveling to the stadium. The club took a fan survey conducted in 2023 as an opportunity to promote the expansion of the charging infrastructure for e-vehincles at the stadium.

CHALLENGES

In particular, the capacity to supply power and the cable routes on the site posed challenges, whether due to complex earthworks or the possible discovery of leftover explosives from the Second World War.
