REALISATION
1. FC Magdeburg created a contact point for those affected by discrimination and violence with the introduction of the “Viktoria Platz” protection concept in December 2023. This measure serves to make stadium visits safer for everyone.
The concept was developed in cooperation with the Saxony-Anhalt Anti-Discrimination Agency. It is based on the idea of supporting affected people directly on match day. Two specially trained employees, recognisable in striking green clothing, are out and about in the stadium and can be contacted via a central telephone number, as well as an email address. The code phrase "How do I get to Viktoria Platz?" makes it possible to get help directly and without having to explain yourself. The support services include initial counselling, possible relocation to other seats in the stadium or support in making contact and referral to specialist counselling centres.
Flexibility is the special feature of this concept. It provides support not only during the games, but also beyond. The team at Viktoria Platz can refer those seeking help to specialised counselling centres and offers initial advice directly on site. In the future, a permanent contact point is also to be created in the stadium, which will serve as a place of retreat for those affected and provide low-threshold access for making contact (planned for the end of 2024 / beginning of 2025).
BACKGROUND
Harassment, discrimination, verbal and physical as well as sexualised violence also occur at sporting events. Protection concepts such as that of 1. FC Magdeburg aim to provide quick and uncomplicated support to those affected and to create a safe haven.
Other code words such as "Where is Luisa?" or "Where is Panama?" originate from the event industry or are used at festivals with corresponding concepts and are finding their way into more and more sporting events
