The second round of workshops - intensive dialogue on the interim results
The project workshops on the sustainability dimensions of ecology, social affairs and economy entered their second round at the beginning of November. The participating experts had received the partial results from the previous work in the project in advance; this meant that the presentation of the current work status at the start could be kept short and there was plenty of time in the small groups.
These lived up to the name ‘workshops’. The participants intensively debated specific sub-targets and indicators for the various action areas of sustainable [major] sporting events. The project team had developed these in recent months with the help of various participation formats and scientific work. During the workshops, it stayed in the background in order to give more space to the valuable input and expertise of the experts.
While the first round of the workshops focussed on the strategic objectives and control areas, the second round was dedicated to working on the various action areas with the associated indicators as a measure of the degree to which the targets have been achieved, and involved lively discussions. The current action areas include, for example
- Waste
- Education for Sustainable Development
- Commitment from Society
- Financing and Cost Stability
- Health and Well-being
- Innovation and Digitalisation
„I found the exchange between the various participants to be very valuable and many different aspects were considered when determining the targets and indicators. Once again, it was a great pleasure for me to be able to bring our experience from the winter sports sector and as a small town in the Alps to the table.“ Florian Speigl (Commercial Manager Tourism & Sport, Oberstdorf Sports Facilities)
The results of the small group work will now be carefully scrutinised by the project team and appropriate changes made to the fields of action. Further suggestions or questions can be addressed to the project team. If the project requires further technical support, the project team will contact the experts again. The final symposium and presentation of the project results will take place in the second half of 2024.
