Review of the meeting of the project advisory board

|   News Home

On 27 May 2024, the advisory board meeting on sustainable [major] sporting events in Germany took place in a hybrid format. The project advisory board brings together relevant stakeholders from politics, culture and education as well as the top sports associations in a specialist and critical advisory body on the topic of sustainability and sporting events.

During the meeting, the current project status was reported on and an outlook was given on planned milestones in project development. In terms of content, the focus was on the service-oriented web portal, which is to be realised using the web development company econcess GmbH, as well as on the design of the final symposium in November 2024.

Key messages from the meeting:

  • For targeted project development, it is relevant to look to the right and left to see which tools are used to implement sustainability requirements in other sectors.
  • The catalogue is intended to motivate people to engage more with sustainability issues at sporting events and provide helpful suggestions and guidance.
  • The portal is intended as support for event organisers to ensure that sporting events are sustainable. There are currently no plans to develop funding criteria.

The goal is clear: despite the complexity of the portal, users should be motivated to engage with and implement sustainability issues in the context of sporting events. Comprehensive control areas and tools, such as stakeholder and risk analyses, are intended to help users deal with structural sustainability issues.

We would like to thank everyone for attending the Advisory Board meeting.

We, the Institute for Outdoor Sport and Environmental Research, are constantly sharing the project's findings and providing information about new milestones in sustainability research on major sporting events.
