THE PROJECT ADVISORY BOARD – A PROFESSIONAL AND CRITICAL CONSULTATIVE BODY

Mareike Miller

Wheelchair basketball player, DOSB Athletes' Commission

“It has long been clear that competitive sport has an enormous ecological footprint with increasingly gigantic global competitions. In addition to minimising this, I am particularly pleased to consider the importance of sport for social development.”

Andreas Michelmann

President of the DHB e.V. / Spokesman of the umbrella organisations

Sylvia Schenk

Head of the Sport working group at Transparency Germany

“FIFA, UEFA and the IOC already started to consider sustainability not just in terms of the environment for their major events in 2016/2017. The pillar of social aspects, in particular human rights, was included in application criteria and organiser contracts, and the requirement for compliance systems has since supported implementation. It is high time not only to take note of international developments in Germany, but also to make compliance and human rights the basis of (major) sporting events at national level and to continue to drive the international debate forward on the part of the DOSB.”

Detlef Berthold

Head of the Sports Facilities division at the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia

“As leading industries, sport and sporting events are a driver of social growth. We must therefore ensure that we define targets for comprehensive sustainable development and develop implementation strategies so that sporting events become places of happiness for the soul for all those involved in the trade-off between economic and ecological objectives.”

Daniela Schneckenburger

Councillor for Education, Culture, Sport, Equality and Integration at the German Association of Cities

“Major sporting events are a highlight in municipal event calendars: They put sport in the spotlight, bring urban society together and ensure that a city can showcase itself. The work of the advisory board is also very helpful in linking the topic of sustainability with the event concepts – and thus ensuring that the climate strategies of the cities and major sporting events can complement each other well.”

Hubert Schwarz

Managing Director at Deutscher Skiverband e.V.

“As winter sports enthusiasts, we are directly affected by the effects of climate change in all areas and disciplines. At the same time, we are convinced that winter sports in all their facets will continue to be a need for people in the coming decades. That is why we are expressly committed to sustainability and, above all, to protecting mountains and nature. And not just since ‘Fridays for future’, but for several decades now. We don't just leave it at warm words, we do something! Continuously and consistently. In all our areas of responsibility and action areas. Among other things, this also means that we utilise our available facilities efficiently, in a way that conserves resources and spans generations.”

Dr. Klaus Reuter

Managing Director at Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Agenda 21 NRW

“Targets need action” – in sport and in the implementation of sustainable development.
