SPORTS VENUES AND INFRASTRUCTURE ACTION AREA
WHAT IS BEHIND THE SPORTS VENUES AND INFRASTRUCTURE ACTION AREA
Select and utilise sports venues and infrastructure sustainably: Sports venues and infrastructure is used below as a collective term for sports venues, their ancillary areas and non-sports-related infrastructure, e.g. press centres, volunteer centres, accommodation for accredited persons and office buildings.
By selecting and adapting sports venues and infrastructure, key framework conditions are set for the consumption of resources such as land use, energy, water and materials as well as for safe, healthy and accessible sporting events for all. Sustainability guidelines must therefore be observed when selecting, planning, constructing, refurbishing, utilising and dismantling permanent and temporary sports venues and the corresponding infrastructure.
In principle, the use of existing sports venues and infrastructure as well as reusable systems are prioritised. Multifunctional sports venues, where only minor adjustments to the infrastructure are required to organise the sporting event, or multifunctional halls that can be repurposed as temporary buildings are particularly suitable. Sustainable accommodation options are supported with guidelines for the selection of accommodation.
TARGETS AND SUB-TARGETS
- Sports venues and infrastructure are selected on the basis of a variant analysis.
- X percent of the sports venues have a comprehensive and year-round main use concept.
- X percent of the sports venues have an existing sustainability certificate for construction or operation.
- The competition venue is used frequently, resulting in a capacity utilisation rate of at least X percent during the relevant competitions.
- An energy concept to reduce energy consumption is currently being implemented at X percent of the sports venues.
- Due to existing public transport capacities in the surrounding area (500 m), X percent of the expected number of visitors can be transported in the hour before or after the sporting event.
- PV systems are installed or planned on X percent of the available space at the sports venue.
- The sports venue meets key requirements in terms of accessibility and accessible equipment/design.
- The proportion of existing buildings is maximised to X percent.
- The additional gross floor area permanently constructed for the sporting event is a maximum of X m².
- The construction of temporary structures as an alternative to permanent construction measures is being examined in terms of its ecological impact, costs and long-term utilisation.
- There is a demonstrable need for main use of newly constructed sports venues and additional buildings.
- As many sports venues in need of renovation as possible will be refurbished in the course of the sporting event.
- A sustainability certificate of certificate level X is achieved for construction measures.
- For permanent buildings, a recycled building material content of X percent is achieved.
- Construction measures reduce the energy requirements of existing buildings or systems by X percent or improve the energy efficiency class.
- An ecologically favourable variant is selected by conducting a life cycle assessment of the construction measures during the planning phase.
- Planning and realisation take into account the convertibility and deconstructibility of permanent buildings.
- X percent of the accredited persons are accommodated in accommodation with a sustainability label.
- X percent of the accredited persons are accommodated in inclusive accommodation.
- Accessible accommodation is offered or used for accredited persons according to their needs.
- All relevant stakeholders (e.g. athletes, visitors) are sensitised to the environmental impact of different accommodation categories and motivated to select suitable accommodation.
