TRAFFIC

WHAT IS BEHIND THE TRAFFIC ACTION AREA

Minimise emissions and promote accessible and sustainable mobility: A sporting event is always associated with traffic generated by visitors and accredited persons. The arrival and departure of visitors in particular is responsible for a large proportion of the emissions from a sporting event.

Motorised private transport plays a major role here and can be reduced by an attractive range of environmentally friendly public transport options (local public transport, long-distance trains, coaches). But reaching the sporting venue by bike and on foot are also relevant.

The logistics transport of goods and the vehicle fleet used for a sporting event also result in emissions that can be minimised, for example, by reducing transport routes or using emission-free means of transport.

TARGETS AND SUB-TARGETS

  1. Sustainability aspects are taken into account when drawing up the transport concept.

  2. The target of the modal split of the main means of transport for travelling to and from the event venue set out in the transport concept is achieved, i.e. the transport volume of people is distributed across different means of transport.

  3. The modal split target set in the transport concept for travelling to and from the event venue is achieved.

  4. The proportion of zero-emission vehicles in temporary and permanent mobility services will be maximised.

  5. Free or low-cost use of public transport is provided for X groups.

  6. The admission ticket includes discounted or free use of long-distance transport.

  7. Parking capacities for motorised private transport will be minimised.

  8. All relevant stakeholders (e.g. organisation team, athletes, visitors) are made aware of the issue of transport and motivated to travel to and from the sporting event in an environmentally friendly way.

  9. X measures will be implemented to encourage visitors and accredited persons to travel to and from the event by bicycle.

  1. Sustainability aspects are taken into account when drawing up the concept for the internal distribution of goods.

  2. The distance travelled by logistics traffic is minimised.

  3. The share of the distance travelled by greenhouse gas-free goods logistics in the total distance travelled by logistics traffic is increased.

  4. X measures are being implemented to reduce logistics kilometres.

  5. The proportion of emission-free means of transport in the sports event's vehicle fleet is maximised to X percent.

FURTHER TARGETS

Action areas serve to divide up the complex topic of sustainability for operationalisation. However, there are many overlaps between the fields of action. For example, although the following objectives belong to the topic of waste, they are dealt with in detail in other action areas.

LINKED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The Traffic action area addresses the following sustainable development goals from the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
