WATER
WHAT IS BEHIND THE WATER ACTION AREA?
Protect bodies of water and minimise water use: The natural water cycle is a vital environmental system that should therefore also be protected during sporting events. This includes, in particular, the economical use of water and the protection of soil and bodies of water from impairment and contamination. Responsible wastewater management also protects the local environment and contributes to health protection.
TARGETS AND SUB-TARGETS
- When planning the water supply, estimates and analyses are made with regard to potential savings in water consumption.
- The total water consumption during the sporting event is minimised to X m³ per capita.
- Drinking water consumption during the sporting event is minimised to X m³ per capita.
- Total water consumption during the planning and follow-up phase is minimised to X m³.
- The drinking water consumption of the sanitary facilities is minimised to X m³.
- Drinking water consumption and the total water consumption for the irrigation of supplementary spaces is minimised to X m³.
- X measures are being implemented to reduce the demand for drinking water.
- All relevant stakeholders (e.g. organisation team, athletes, visitors) are made aware of the issue of water and motivated to adopt water-saving behaviour.
- X measures are implemented for the responsible handling of wastewater.
- By checking temporary water and wastewater pipes every X days, leaks are avoided and eliminated as quickly as possible.
FURTHER TARGETS
Action areas serve to divide up the complex topic of sustainability for operationalisation. However, there are many overlaps between the fields of action. For example, although the following objectives belong to the topic of water, they are dealt with in detail in other action areas.
- Impacts on soil and natural bodies of water are minimised as much as possible → Click here to discover the Natural Habitats and Biodiversity action area
LINKED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The Water action area addresses the following sustainable development goals from the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
